According to the Canadian Government, the answer is...

YES, FISH ARE SEALS AND SEALS ARE FISH...

or at least according to their fisheries management policies, philosophies, and practices.

Of course everybody knows that seals are members of the Pinneped family of Mammals, but apparently, it's easier to not get emotionally involved with killing seals if you think of them as fish.

According to the DFO, the seal massacre is called a "harvest", an individual seal kill is considered "a catch", and the seal herds are called "the seal fishery".

For those willing to brave the wild and wacky world of the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans propaganda laden "research" and plans for exterminating seals, we present to you:

From the Fisheries and Aquaculture department of the DFO:

* Seals and sealing in Canada: 2004-2005

* Seals and sealing in Canada: 2002
