What one amazing person alone has done to help seals...

Viv is a seal star! This is what one truly amazing, compassionate and persistent woman in Canberra has done - in the abscence of any support whatsoever, she made a big impact.

Three cheers for Viv!

Here is her letter and description of her day and experience:

The protest outside the Canadian High Commission didn’t take place as apathetic Canberrans (including Greenpeace) didn’t contact me to attend. However, I hand delivered the petition with lots of signatures that I was able to collect in only a couple of weeks.

I couldn’t give it to a diplomat because “they were all in a meeting” said the receptionist. Very convenient.

After delivering the petition, I pinned to a tree outside the Commission the sign and blood stained flag with two toy seals on it that you’ll see on the attached photo, so motorists driving pass could see it, although they weren’t that big. I used the same material at Canberra university yesterday at lunch time when dozens of students and university staff were sitting around. Everyone was most willing to sign.

I’m also enclosing a photo of that occasion. I should have had the photo taken whilst talking to people, but I forgot all about the camera until I was ready to leave. Two local radio stations were supposed to ring me about the seal slaughter, but in the end, they didn’t. I guess in typical media fashion, they’re only interested in sensationalist news, not in quiet protests.

Cheers, VIV
