THE CANADIAN DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES AND OCEANS POSES THIS INTRIGUING SCIENCE QUESTION:
ARE SEALS FISH? (Click here for the fascinating answer.)
Harpseals.org campaigns focus on promoting the Canadian seafood boycott, since this is the best strategy we have in America for ending the seal slaughter
Harpseals.org Campaigns
Harpseals.org continues to put your donations to work for the seals. Here is a summary of our latest campaigns. Help us increase the pressure on the Canadian seafood industry to stop the slaughter of seals. Join us today!
* Harpeals.org launches Project Easy Switch Project Easy Switch is a database of wholesalers and distributors of alternatives to Canadian seafood. This project will help promote the Canadian seafood boycott by making it easier for seafood retailers to switch to non-Canadian sources of seafood. It will thus increase the competitiveness of American seafood vendors as the Canadian seafood boycott grows stronger.
* Harpeals.org launches Kids4Seals.org Kids4Seals is all about how kids can help save the seals. Read inspiring stories of the creative actions kids have undertaken to stop the seal massacre. Guide your kids to this website to learn the facts and get involved...without worrying about images too graphic for kids. There are great resources for teachers, too. And Kids4Seals is more than a website. Kids4Seals will sponsor projects for kids and guide kids, parents, and teachers in organizing local projects that will make a difference for the seals.
* Putting pressure on major Canadian seafood vendors Harpseals.org has created automated emails, making it easy for seal activists to pressure major retailers to join the boycott of Canadian seafood. Tell Albertsons, Publix, Kroger, and other major seafood vendors to help save the seals today!
Don't stop there! Harpseals.org has also produced Action Cards to give to these and other seafood vendors. With these Action Cards, there will be no doubt in the minds of the managers of these companies that their own customers want them to join the Canadian seafood boycott. Order yours today! (They're free!)
Want to help even more? Harpseals.org will help you organize a protest at a supermarket or seafood restaurant near you. Let us know the details or your event, and we'll post it here. If you can't organize a protest, you can still go out and distribute our leaflets there. Even one person can easily educate dozens of seafood consumers in just a couple hours. Order our educational leaflets today! (They're free!)
*Harpseals.org continues to educate millions through the mass media.
Thanks to your generous donations, we continue to spread the word about the seals and the Canadian seafood boycott to millions. Our two billboards go up around the country and have been up in St. Louis and Chicago in March. We have had print ads and articles in Healthy Planet in St. Louis and Current in New Jersey. We have aired TV commercials in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale and Los Angeles are currently working on getting our TV commercials aired on cable stations in other major cities. Read more about our advertising efforts here.
Harpseals.org activists were interviewed for a 30 minute program broadcasted on Supreme Master Television, a satellite channel that also streams live on the internet. The interview with Sue Hirsch and Ian Robichaud was aired to millions of viewers worldwide on December 20th, 2006.
Harpseals.org's Founder, Ian Robichaud, was interviewed about the seal campaign by Maria Sanchez on Radio Station 1590 AM (The Connection) in southern California on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 7:35 am.
*Harpseals.org continues to educate tens of thousands of individuals through direct outreach at festivals
Harpseals.org volunteers educate people about the seal "hunt" in many different ways. One of our favorites is hosting information tables at festivals. On Sept. 30, 2006, Harpseals.org volunteers tabled at the Roots & Shoots festival in southern California. There, the volunteers met Jane Goodall and presented her with a Harpseals.org t-shirt. Read about other festival outreach here.
You, too, can help educate the public and encourage participation in the boycott of Canadian seafood and supporting boycotts by tabling at festivals in your town. Contact us for information and guidance.
*Harpseals.org continues to educate thousands of students through direct outreach at schools
Harpseals.org's Director of Outreach, Robb Mead, created PowerPoint presentations for students of all ages and has presented them to students all over California. Harpseals.org has put these presentations together with test/homework questions and topics for further study on a Multimedia CD that we make available to seal activists and teachers all over the country. Our Lesson Kit also includes a DVD with HSUS footage of the slaughter, leaflets, and stickers. If you are a teacher and would like to present this lesson to your class, or if you are a seal activist who would like to give presentations in schools in your neighborhood, or if you are a student and you would like your teacher to present this lesson to your class, order a Lesson Kit today! It's free!
* SuperSealWoman soared into San Francisco to save the seals!
SuperSealWoman “flew high” at 367 Bay Street in North Beach, snatching a sealer’s club and saving a helpless harp seal pup. Contact us for information on sponsoring a SuperSealWoman mural in your city today.
