When: September 10th and 11th, 2005
Where: Dana Point, CALIFORNIA

Harpseals.org volunteers secured and tended a booth at the Tallships Festival in Dana Point on Sept. 10th and 11th. This 2 day festival is the largest gathering of Tallships on the West Coast and lived up to its hopes of drawing a large attendance. The Ocean Institute in Dana Point sponsored this event with Toshiba and welcomed us with "open arms" to participate.click to enlarge

click to enlargeThis was another great opportunity for us to reach out to a large number of people with the perfect demographics for our public awareness campaign. Located in a beautiful setting at Dana Point harbor with tours of the Ocean Institute and the Tallships, music, vendors, etc. (for more info, check out: www.tallshipsfestival.com, and www.ocean-institute.org).


Harpseals.org volunteers had a fun and rewarding time doing our thing for the seals: educating people about the seal killing issues in a variety of creative ways: hand painting and handing out "seal rocks" for the kids, getting lots of petitions signed, recruiting new volunteers and making lots of new beneficial contacts for the seals, among other things. As with the Orange County Street Fair, (above), volunteers collected enough donations to cover the costs of the event.click to enlarge

The Orange county chapter of Harpseals.org (harpseals.meetup.com) is credited for arranging this booth, with many different groups providing support materials for distribution to the attendees.
