Rock
& Roll
for Baby Seals! The first ever "Harpseals Survival Revival" took place on Nov. 3rd, 2005 |
What
it was and why we did it
To oppose the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the
planet- to raise funds and awareness to end the horrific and bizarre annual
massacre of the innocents known as the Atlantic Canadian Harpseal hunt. (find

What
happened that night
Harpseals.org first ever, (and possibly the first of its
kind) concert for the seals was a great success and a lot of fun for all.
Throughout the evening, we managed to meld together an interesting and
fun night of music, education, and help for the seals as we rocked and rolled
to 4 awesome tribute bands. (see band list at right)
Our friends at the Sea
Shepherd Conservation Society joined us with a booth and offered their
support as well as some terrific items for our auction and lots of great seal
posters, among other things. The concert helped us raise some much needed
funds from a portion of the overall ticket sales and a terrific "silent
auction" of donated gifts from many amazing and generous persons. Most
of the "seal action" took place in the "seal room" where
we displayed the
beautiful art, autographed Stratocaster guitars, and other wonderful gift
items.
In addition, we also sold many Harpseals.org T-shirts
and raffled off several terrific prize baskets full of seal goodies including
some very unique seal novelties put together with help from our creative volunteers.

All proceeds are being used to fund the seal campaign of Harpseals.org
and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, both 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.
Did
we have Rockstars?
You bet! In addition to our rockin' bands
living up to their excellent reputations, we also had an awesome lineup of
famous seal-loving musicians making special guest musical appearances throughout
the evening including:
* Carmine Appice- A living
drumming legend. (drummer of Vanilla Fudge, the band that Led Zeppelin opened
for on one of their very first live shows, as well as a regular drumming stand
in and personal friend of John Bonham.) To find out more,

* Stuart Smith, guitarist, and drummer Richie Onori, of the
band "Heaven & Earth".

Where
did it take place?
The venue for the show was the ever so interesting
Canyon Dinner Theater in Agoura Hills which is definitely a terrific place
to have a concert. Well known for big name bands playing there regulary, the
friendly management donated the venue for free that night during one of their
busiest regular weekday gigs- and we are forever grateful for them doing so!
But
wait, there was more...
