Harpseals.org ran this billboard in Center City, Philadelphia, PA, on I-95 at Vine St. from Jan. to June 2006. 117,000 people viewed it every day!

We combined this with a radio campaign on Sunny 104.5 and WJJZ 106.1.

Making the seafood boycott work for the seals means spreading the word to people all across the country. To reach millions of Americans, we need the mass media.

This page lists some ways we're reaching millions with the message, "Boycott Canadian seafood."

Note: Harpseals.org funds ads to the extent that our budget allows. Please donate today to help us fund advertisements around the country!

We purchase billboards, print ads, TV and radio commercials in across the U.S.. The most effective ads are those that work in conjunction with local volunteers organize events and outreach and contact the local media to do interviews.

OUTDOOR ADVERTISING

1. Billboards and Wall Murals

Our first SuperSealWoman wall mural was at 367 Bay St. in San Francisco for the month of December. Help us put these up all around the country!

Recently, our billboards have been in New Jersey (I-95), Chicago, St. Louis, MO, Richmond, VA (I-95/64), and previously at another location on I-95 in New Jersey. With these billboards, we have reached MILLIONS of people, inspiring them to visit our website to learn about the seal slaughter and the boycott of Canadian seafood.

Another spot we've had recently for our 14' x 48' billboard: Miami, FL (with about 78,000 vehicles passing by each day):

Harpseals.org's billboard was up in Newark on the NJ Turnpike, close to the airport for over a month. Over 130,000 people saw it every day!

Harpseals.org's first full size billboard was working in Orlando, Florida, home of Darden Restaurants, parent company to Red Lobster restaurants, our biggest boycott target.

This billboard was prominently located in a high traffic intersection.

Harpseals.org's second full size billboard wowed folks in Omaha, Nebraska in November and December 2005.

This billboard worked for the seals in conjunction with an organized radio ad campaign.

An amazing activist and fighter for the seals named Bruce Foerster put up this billboard on the highway leading into Victoria, Canada.

Thank you Bruce!

We are currently looking for the best sites for our 2 billboards and will put them back up soon. Please help us purchase space in good locations -- Donate today!

2. Bus Shelter Ads

This advertising option is a little less costly an option to a high visibility billboard. Harpseals.org put up 2 bus shelter displays in Sacramento in June, 2005.

Location? Just a few blocks from 2 Red Lobster restaurants!

In the right location, these can bring a lot of bang for the buck.

3. Sealmobiles

Be your own billboard!
Yes, you can be a moving billboard, educating thousands of seafood consumers whereever you go.Sealmobile Just drive around in your very own Sealmobile! It can be simple, with text written in Window Chalk (which comes in many colors, including neon colors highly visible at night), or very artistic. You can print out your own decals with our templates or put small photos on your windows. You can buy the rear window decal pictured here at cost ($85) from us.

PRINT ADS

We have black and white ads, color ads, ads that are great for newspapers, and ads that are great for magazines.

Check them out and sponsor them in your local paper (including school paper) or favorite magazine! Just sent us an email if you'd like to sponsor and ad, and we'll take care of all the legwork.
In 2006, thanks to generous support from donors and sponsors, we have put print ads in the the Salinas Californian, the St. Louis Riverfront Times, the Healthy Planet in St. Louis, the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Newspaper, the Currents Magazine, and others!
We placed an ad, along with an article, in the December issue of Currents Magazine, a magazine restaurant-goers in northeastern New Jersey read when they are looking for a place to eat out. After reading our article and seeing our ad, they'll know that if they choose seafood, by avoiding Canadian seafood, they are helping to save the seals of Canada.
You can still see our ad in the October edition of the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Newspaper. We also had an article in the January edition of the newspaper, which reaches over a thousand business, including many restaurants in L.A.

TV COMMERCIALS

TV is still the medium of choice to reach the most people and move them to action!
Our original TV commercial is graphic and poignant. It carries the boycott message and has already raised awareness in cities around the U.S.

Our second TV commercial is a one of a kind. No graphic seal killing scenes in here, but oh, so powerful! View it here.

We aired our second TV commercial on Discovery Channel's Planet Earth series on April 8th and 15th, 2007 in the New York City area (Manhattan, Long Island, Brooklyn, and Queens, and Bergen and Hudson Counties in NJ) on Time Warner cable.

Sponsoring this commercial is not as expensive as you may think! We can air it on cable stations in your area for a few weeks for a donation of about $2000-$3000. If our budget allows, we will split the cost if you can donate a portion of this.

Contact us to sponsor TV commercials!

Thus far, we have aired our first spot in south Florida, southern California, New York, and Michigan. Help us reach seafood consumers nationwide!

RADIO COMMERCIALS

Radio is also a great avenue to spread the word.
Harpseals.org has several spots including 10 second, 30 second, and 60 second spots. We have both pre-recorded spots and text that DJ's can read on the air. You can download them and ask local stations to air them as PSA's or sponsor commercials in your town or anywhere in the country. We will send the commercials on a CD, if required.

Contact us to sponsor radio commercials!

In Sept. 2006, we ran our 10 second and 30 second radio commercials on The Point 94.3 in New Jersey during peak commute times. You can sponsor commercials for just $25 - 200 each (depending on location and time). (There will be a minimum purchase.) Donate today and help spread the word and save the seals! You can also help by asking your local college stations to air these commercials as public service announcements.
