Harpseals.org and several other organizations are actively encouraging seafood retailers to switch from Canadian sources of seafood to alternative sources. This is part of the effort to pressure the Canadian fishing industry to stop the harp seal slaughter, which takes the lives of hundreds of thousands of harp seal pups in Canada each year. The backing of the Canadian fishing industry allows this massacre to continue. Project Easy Switch will make switching from Canadian seafood to other sources of seafood easy for retailers by providing them with a searchable directory of suppliers of non-Canadian seafood. The directory allows searching by species, processing method, country of origin, season of availability and other information. Harpseals.org is offering free listings in this directory to any distributor or wholesaler of non-Canadian sources of the following seafood: Snow crab, cod, lobster, Jonah crab, monkfish, turbot, scallops, haddock, mussels, halibut, perch, Arctic char, cold-water shrimp, salmon, oysters, flounder, smelt, tuna, mackerel, herring, sardines, prawns, whiting, sole, snapper, and clams. Suppliers join Project Easy Switch by filling out the Project Easy Switch form below. To receive more information on this project, please email projecteasyswitch@harpseals.org or call 1-866-4-HARPSEALS. |
