VIDEO ARCHIVES

Welcome to the video archives section of harpseals.org.
On these pages, you will find a wonderful assortment of photographs of live Harp Seals and other Atlantic Canadian seal species, as well as a horrifying assortment of dead and dying seals.

We realize it's hard to view the dead and dying ones next to the live ones, but we feel it's an absolute necessity in order to bring home the reality of the situation for the seals.

If this makes you angry, all the better... maybe you'll want to do something to change it?

THE DEAD AND DYING ONES (KILL FOOTAGE)
The "best" motion picture footage of the seal hunt has undeniably been filmed by IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) over the years. This is something they do that is an essential part of the anti-hunt effort. Although photographing the hunt is an absolutely horrible experience for them, harpseals.org thanks IFAW for having the guts and foresight to continue to do it, year after year.
This year, photographers were permitted to come within 15 meters of sealers, allowing unprecedented documentation of the tortuous techniques used by the sealers. “I saw this hunt from a very close range,” said Rebecca Aldworth, who grew up in Newfoundland, and traveled with the photographic team. “Many seal pups showed signs they were still responding to pain while they were being sliced open. It was just horrific to watch. We must end this massive and cruel commercial hunt.”
