AMERICAN SEAFOOD VENDORS (Companies that buy Canadian seafood)
This section contains a detailed list of restaurant chains, supermarkets, fish markets and distributors that purchase Canadian seafood.

(see our EXPORTERS section for a list of who's SELLING them the seafood)

Note to American seafood vendors: Harpseals.org announces Project Easy Switch, a project to help retailers find alternatives to Canadian seafood and to help the wholesalers and distributors who provide alternatives sell to retailers who want to avoid Canadian seafood.

RESTAURANT CHAINS:
There are thousands of restaurants selling Canadian seafood products.

A focus on the
RED LOBSTER
Red Lobster purchases more Canadian seafood than any other restaurant or chain. If they join the Canadian seafood boycott, this will have a huge impact. Parent company Darden management's responses to requests to join the boycott are feeble attempts at playing dumb. Darden management at various times has claimed that they don't understand why they have been targeted, asserted that they "don't serve seal meat", and have claimed that they don't buy seafood from Newfoundland and don't want other companies that may not be directly involved in sealing to be affected. We know that their participation is very important and that the boycott would end much sooner were they to join.

Read the Red Lobster rejection letter now, then tell them what you think! (you can email them here)

Ultimately, their "form rejection" letter is akin to giving us the cold shoulder... Apparently, they don't believe we can rally the power to affect their business.
The seal activists will keep the pressure on Red Lobster until this company joins
the boycott or the commercial seal "hunt" is banned permanently.

SUPERMARKETS:
The supermarkets listed here are all buying Canadian seafood. Please look for Canadian seafood products in YOUR local supermarket and discourage other shoppers from buying them. Bring our leaflets with you and hand them out to seafood customers. Note: You can tell most of the time that the seafood is from Canada by looking for the "product of Canada," label on the package. Exception: pre-cooked seafood sold in the fresh-fish section. This doesn't have to be labeled, so please ask the seafood clerk or manager, especially if you buy snow crabs!

Please let us know if you find Canadian seafood products at your local supermarket and if so, we'll add them to this page.

MANUFACTURERS:
Here are a few manufacturers of seafood products that are using Canadian seafood. Note: Some use Canadian seafood at certain times of the year or only when prices are lowest for the seafood from Canada. Please let them know that buying Canadian seafood, even if it costs less than the equivalent seafood from other countries, is not a bargain -- because they will lose sales!
