Canada has begun 2011 with a trade deal with China. Now that the European Union has banned the import of seal products into the EU, the Canadian government has been looking for new markets for seal products.

Selling to China will involve more than just making a deal with the government. Chinese businesses will need to buy into this idea, too. It remains to be seen whether this will happen on a large enough scale to 'save the seal hunt'.

This section provides news articles on the slaughter and related issues.
